Job Summary: The Grants Writer will be responsible for researching, writing, and managing grant proposals and applications to secure funding for our digital empowerment programs in Africa. This role plays a crucial part in sustaining and expanding our initiatives, ensuring that we can reach more children and make a lasting impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Grant Research:
    • Identify potential grant opportunities from foundations, government agencies, and other sources.
    • Conduct in-depth research to understand the funding priorities and requirements of potential grantors.
  2. Proposal Development:
    • Write persuasive and well-researched grant proposals, applications, and letters of inquiry.
    • Customize proposals to align with each grantor’s guidelines and preferences.
    • Ensure proposals are compelling, clear, and accurate.
  3. Grant Management:
    • Maintain a grant calendar to track submission deadlines, reporting requirements, and grant status.
    • Manage and update grant records and documentation.
    • Collaborate with program and finance teams to gather data and information for proposals and reports.
  4. Relationship Building:
    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with grantors, program officers, and foundation representatives.
    • Respond to inquiries and requests for information from grantors.
  5. Compliance and Reporting:
    • Ensure compliance with grant agreements and reporting requirements.
    • Prepare and submit timely and accurate grant reports.
    • Collaborate with the finance team to track grant expenditures.
  6. Collaboration:
    • Work collaboratively with program, finance, and leadership teams to understand funding needs and program impact.
    • Support the development of program budgets for grant applications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Non-Profit Management, English, Journalism, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in grant writing and grant management, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Strong research, writing, and editing skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in using grant databases and research tools.
  • Commitment to the organization’s mission and values.
  • Proficiency in English is an advantage.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as required.
